working toward a regenerative ecosystem

  • Vision

Hawaiʻi’s moku/ahupuaʻa based system is a model for our modern times. We can draw on this wisdom as a fundament, into which we incorporate modern tools and science to increase our food sustainability.

  • The Thirty Percent Podcast

Launched in 2022, my podcast focuses on Hawaiʻi’s statewide goal to create a 30% local food system by 2030, and features in depth interviews with Hawaiʻi’s food system practitioners and thought leaders.

The following publications and interviews provide a more in depth view of the mission of Paula Daniels including her work in food systems change, water infrastructure and more.

Why 30%

It’s an achievable, stretch goal that would generally mean doubling the local food production infrastructure and ecosystem for most US regions.

It is also a tipping point for change  and a realistic target which Hawaiʻi has already set as a goal – along with the state of New York, the country of Singapore, the country of  Brazil, and increasingly, other governments as well.

Transformational Systems Change

“It is no longer possible to look at food, livelihoods, health and the management of natural resources separately. Embracing systems–thinking through holistic approaches is needed to address these complex and interdependent challenges. The fundamental connection between people and the planet, with sustainable agriculture and food systems, is at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which stresses the urgent need to take concerted action and pursue policies directed at transformational change”

We are everything, and everyone, and every time, that came before us.
